Information sheet for an incoming exchange study period at the mdw for the study year 2018/2019

Dear students!

Thank you for your interest in studying as an incoming exchange student at the mdw-University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna!

If you wish to apply (as exchange students) for the autumn term 2018/2019 or for the whole academic year 2018/2019, please note that the deadline for sending your online application is set on the 15th of March 2018. The second application deadline (only for the summer term 2019 and not available for voice students) is set for the 15th of October 2018.

The online application period for the autumn term 2018/2019 will start from the 15th of February 2018. We only accept electronic applications made through the MDW ONLINE APPLICATION SYSTEM:

https://www.mdw.ac.at/austauschstudium/application?login=register

(Link above will be available from February 2018)

More information:

https://www.mdw.ac.at/upload/MDWeb/austauschstudium/downloads/Guide.pdf

After registering, you need to confirm your email address by clicking on the link (an email will be sent to you automatically). When you start the online application, only the fields that have the star sign * next to them are compulsory. The documents which need to be uploaded in order to be able to complete the application are: your Curriculum Vitae, Motivation Letter, Transcript of Records and the filled in and signed Learning Agreement (see Guide link above).

By answering the questions from the online application, a Student Application Form will be filled in automatically. At the end of the application, if you have completed everything correctly including the email address of your home institution coordinator, you will receive an automatic confirmation that the application was successfully submited. At the same time, your coordinator will also receive an automatic email containing an internet link, where all the data from your application can be seen.

Here you can find the lists of courses for the different study fields:

http://www.mdw.ac.at/austauschstudium/erasmusmodule

http://www.mdw.ac.at/austauschstudium/erasmusmodule?newlang=en

If you have already started the online application, you might see that under "Learning Agreement" you also have the field for selecting not only the course, but also the semester in which the course will be followed. In the list of courses (Erasmus modules) each course is described with the number of ECTS points per semester. Please mind the markings which specify when a course can be offered only once per study year. The Learning Agreement can be also filled in online; we are using an ERASMUS+ template.

Other important information:

http://www.mdw.ac.at/austauschstudium/informationspaket?newlang=en

If you already know the name/s of the mdw professor/s with whom you would like to study, then you can write the name/s in the online application and our Office will know where to send the recordings (that you will also have to provide and upload). You can specify the internet links to your recordings on other platforms.

The official teaching language at the mdw is German. Some of our teachers come from different countries and could also make their individual courses in English, but this is unfortunately not the same regarding group lessons. A language certificate is not compulsory, but having some knowledge of the German language is recommended.

If you’re coming from an European institution, please contact your coordinator concerning the possibility to do a free German language course (OLS) through the ERASMUS+ Programme (should be available in case you receive a positive answer to your application from our university). Our university also offers a German language course during the semester (115€ of the course costs can be refunded to ERASMUS+ incoming student by our international office). More information available on the website mentioned above.

With kind regards,

Victor Ciulian
