THE ROYAL DANISH ACADEMY OF MUSIC

UNMUTE YOUR POTENTIAL

The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) is an institute of higher education providing music education at the highest international level. The academy is located in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, and has a positive and supportive study environment with high-quality facilities, including six recording studios and four concert halls, as well as modern teaching and practice rooms.

From its location in Copenhagen, RDAM maintains an international network that includes some of the leading music institutions of Scandinavia, Europe, USA, and China. At the same time, it is an important cultural institution within the Danish music scene. This unique combination gives students the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the best musicians from all over the world.

As an integral part of the Danish music scene, RDAM collaborates with some of the most prominent Danish music institutions, such as Copenhagen Phil and The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Through these collaborations, students can begin to develop meaningful and wide-reaching professional networks during their studies at RDAM.

The positive and supportive study environment at RDAM is based on a pedagogical philosophy that is student-centered, striking a balance between demands of the professional classical music industry and the individual student’s progress and development. As such, teaching that focusses on individual artistic development is supplemented with project-based learning that allows students to gain valuable real-life experience.

Examples of project-based learning can be found in the over 200 public concerts that RDAM holds every year, giving all students opportunities to gain experience as professional musicians. These concerts span a wide range of formats, and in addition to featuring classical music in conventional settings, students are also encouraged and supported in experimenting with new and innovative ways of performing and experiencing classical music.
